How to Change WhatsApp Business Display Name

Your WhatsApp Business display name is the name your customers see when you message them.

Once your current display name has been approved, you can update it at any time by following the steps below.

Important Notes Before You Begin​

Please review these guidelines carefully before changing your display name:

  • Your display name must represent your business, product, service, or department.
  • If you’re using a personal name, it must clearly reflect your business.
    • ✅ Example: John’s Fitness Coaching
    • ❌ Not allowed: John
  • Generic terms (like Clothing, Food, or Delhi) or geographical names alone will not be approved.
  • For test or demo accounts, the name must clearly show association with your business.
  • Meta will not approve random or unrelated custom names.

Make sure your new name follows Meta’s approval guidelines to avoid rejection.

Steps to Change Your Display Name

Step 1: Update in Meta WhatsApp Manager​

  1. Go to Meta Business Manager and select your business.
  2. From the left-hand menu, open:
    Account Tools → Phone Numbers
  3. Click the Settings (⚙️) icon.
  4. Go to the Profile tab.
  5. Click Edit under the Display Name section.
  6. Enter your new business name (must follow Meta’s approval guidelines).
  7. Navigate to the Two-Step Verification tab:
    • If two-step verification is enabled, turn it off before proceeding.

Step 2: Wait for Meta Approval​

  • Your new display name will go through Meta’s approval process.
  • You will receive an email confirmation once your display name is approved and active.

Approval time may vary.

Step 3: Re-register in WhautoChat​

After Meta approves your new display name, you must update your integration inside WhautoChat.

  1. Log in to the WhautoChat app.
  2. Go to the Integrations menu.
  3. Click Edit Setup under the WhatsApp integration.
  4. Select Register Phone Number.
  5. Enter a 6-digit random PIN and proceed.
  6. Once registration is complete, your new display name will reflect immediately.

⚠️ Important: Re-registration Required​

If you change your WhatsApp Business display name, you must re-register your phone number to continue using the WhatsApp Cloud API without interruption.

Failure to re-register may result in messaging issues.

Your new display name is now active and visible to customers on WhatsApp.
